Ask the TA - Chemistry Help

Teaching Assistants (TA's) are the students best friend. Teaching at the university level usually only requires a PhD with no training on how to actually teach! In the sciences especially, professors are chosen more for their ability to perform research and bring in grant money than for their ability to teach. While most all of them are very smart people, they don't always know how to communicate what they know to students. That's where the TA comes in - they both know the material and can communicate it effectively. I know from personal experience that most people can understand almost anything if it's presented to them in the right way. My goal is to present topics in chemistry in a straightforward, step by step way that anybody can understand.

Most chemistry help sites I've seen sound like a textbook. This isn't very helpful to the student searching the web because they don't understand their textbook! It is my goal that nothing on this site will ever read like a text and will instead offer clear explanations of specific concepts. I have some odd ways of explaining things sometimes - but it usually gets the point across! Just for example, check out my Santa - pesky kid explanation of acids and bases.

It should be noted that this site is not meant to be comprehensive or to replace a quality chemistry text - It is simply meant to help the average student struggling with difficult concepts. I am by no means an expert in the field - I'm just a TA that wants to help. I do my best to make sure everything posted here is correct - including reading lots of textbooks! If you notice something on the site is incorrect, please don't hesitate to contact me.
